Kumano Nachi Taisha is a Shinto sanctuary in Hongu in the mountains near the cities of Shingu and Tanabe. The sanctuary is built over Nachi-no Taki Falls, the largest waterfall in Japan, with a water difference of 133 m. Kumirna is adjacent to the Buddhist temple of Seiganto-ji. It is believed that the spirit of the waterfall dwells in the sanctuary. The modern building dates back to 1853. To the east of the Kumirni there is an ancient forest, which is considered sacred. Kumirna was previously associated with numerous Buddhist temples, eliminated in the Meiji era (late XIX century) as a result of the decree to separate Buddhism from Shinto.
